...and risked losing (what seemed like) the ideal car?? Don't think so.

No matter what financial situation I was in, I'd rather write off £200 than potentially wank away £7k+ with no come-back when the 5/0 came to seize the car from me after the registered keeper found out that their car had been sold from under them by a bitter ex-partner.

Live and learn though, would be worth getting the number/details of any potential FRS your pal looks at and asking on the RSOC or FRS Owners Club and see if its a known car... alternatively, offer Chop what he paid for his so he can get the Impreza he's always wanted.
