find a mechanic with some sence, get him to do a leakage & compression test, leakage normally tells a lot more than compression
also £450 for a bearings & seals rebuild
you can get an exchange turbo for under £400..
there was a brand new one box'ed with blue cover over the turbo fan hole with mainfold for £350
i know you can get them rebuilt around 200ish from turbo tech here in nottinghamshire.
