Theres far more than enough information, in books and on the internet to not damage any engines.

Reading is one thing, doing is another !
Mapping a high power turbo engine can be melted in seconds !
A fault or problem overlooked can do the same.

As for crossing the road, a speeding drunk motorist cant be predicted in the same way .
Besides, melting an engine is not going to kill you
