Default Puma ABS/TC problem

Im getting the TC readomly cutting for no reason in the other halfs 1998 Puma.
It first happened when she was pulling out of a junction but not spining the wheels then started to happen at random times when overtaking or just slowing down.

I have just been out in it and there is a grinding sort of noise when you brake if one wheel starts to slide (I was putting the inside wheel in the mud to make it slide)
The grinding noise isnt there when you go on the brakes normally or even when you jam on it only seems to be when one wheel locks up or is they start spinning.

What would cause the TC to come in without the wheels spinning? A sensor?
What would the grinding noise be? The ABS pump? Are there any known common faults with the ABS or TC system in the Puma?

Loads of questions i know!

I have taken the fuses out of the ABS for now and the problem is gone but obviously it cant be left like that.
