i'v not gone down the classic route myself yet, so couldn't give you any advice on that but, i'm sure if you put up another post on the forum saying good classic insurers or something along those lines, you will get a good response, but with any classic car you pay no road tax or very little, don't quote me on that lol, i'm sure someone with a classic will help you with all the pro's and con's, but you'll struggle for the right people to look at a cossie rep post as you've found out lol,

and yes much cheaper cant remember why, my old man keep's saying but i'm sticking with my mk5 for the mo , it will have a turbo in it eventually but will leave it looking standard, so when i get the boy racer next to me and he rev's his engine thinking he's got a chance, i can point and laugh at him lol as i burn off, now that's how you want to do it mate, and your misses will prob's shag your brains out after, or even invite a female friend you never know lol

but like we've said your only 17 so don't run before you can walk, if you've a smaller engined car, when you eventually make a mistake and take it off road, it wont be as bad as if you had something really quick and gone into the tree's at like 50, you can imagine the mess yourself.
