Because of the cost of insurance on anything with modifications, its just not worthwhile doing unless you happen to live in an area where the most serious crime is peeing in public, even then, the fact you would be 17/18 would just financially cripple you unless you have alot of money. When I was 19 I paid £1300 for TPFT on a standard 1997 1.6 Si Escort, I daren't mod it then because it was just so expensive.

Really, the best bet is get something and keep it standard, and bide your time until insurance isnt like throwing money down the drain
