Also despite what people think you do NOT need to be on HIGH RATE mobility to get a bus pass, so long as your doc signs a form stating you suffer severe pain upon walking is enough.
Though this and a few extra tiny bits is pretty much the qualifying conditions for dla mobility, he should also apply to local authority for blue badge, if not already.

15 years ago in london, things were different as you had free travel within the london boroughs with your pass on tubes buses and trains mainly wihtint the M25, he would had to give that up to get a car, but now he's nearly 70 it's not going to make a difference as it's now virtually across the whole contry that pensionsers can get free travel
