I have an R reg (1997) fiesta which needs a new gearbox (as driveshaft cracked and gearbox oil had leaked everywhere). I have been quoted £500-600 for a new one, but found a reconditioned one (with 12 month guarantee) for £120. This will end up costing about £450 all together with labour etc. But i've been told that sometimes when they replace the gearbox the clutch can get damaged & may need replacing too. This would obviously hike the price up more and i'm not sure the car is worth it if i have to pay for that too. if it's gonna cost loads i might have to count my losses and try & get a new car :-(

So i guess my question is, how likely is it that i'll need to buy a new clutch too? I'd ring the garage but they're shut now and need to decide what to do ASAP cos being carless is a total nightmare!

I hope someone out there can help me out with some advice on what to do?!
