All jailbreaking does is allows you to install third party apps and programmes, it doesn't unlock the phone to be used on a different carrier network.

The old iPhones, on 1.1.4 firmware could be UNLOCKED to use on any network, but since firmware 2.0.x came out, there is still no way of unlocking an iphone on this firmware for any network. It cannot be done.... yet....
