I don't know much about beta blockers other than what was posted up above and a little bit of what someone I know has told me, but have had a heart pacemaker fitted at 20 (14 years ago).
Mine was fitted due to a problem with my heart not sending the electrical pulse all the time meaning my heart rate dropped to about 15-20 bpm every now and then. It was causing me to have blackouts now and again. Had a 24 hour ECG test done and found the problem.
Bascially the pacemaker is set to check if a pulse signal is sent each second as set to 60bpm and if not it will send one itself to compensate. However, they can be used for a range of problems.
I hope your sister is okay, but the key thing is for them to diagnose the actual problem like you say before fitting a pacemaker.
