Firstly i'd like to confirm i'm calling this part the right name

Its the standard oil cooler jobbie that has two water pipes going into it, sits between the oil filter and the block on a yb?

Now if i take this out to put a mocal oil cooler in, can i just reroute the original water pipe that goes into it? IE instead of going into modine then the head, can i just go straight to the head, bypassing the modine part?
