Competely agree with Chip on this. I have a friend who participates in a classic car race series, and a couple of years ago they participated in a race for the first time on the Nordschlief.

My mate practiced on the PS2 for weeks before going (mine in fact!), and as a result was signficantly quicker than others. He attributes most of this to being able to learn the general layout on the console!

You need to have been out with mongo to comment, within 5 laps he was TOTALLY on the pace (ask MikeR) and his only experience before that was 2K laps or so on the play station.
I think he was actually a few seconds quicker than me in the same car in fact!
And he pointed out a few lines I had wrong, and Id been round it at least 100 times at that point and he was on his first ever real life lap as a passenger at the time

Its VERY useful practice on the games.
