Id stick with the combo mate. Mines never missed a beat in 120k, all ive had to do is an airflow meter along with the normal service items. From hearing peoples views who own both, the combo seems to be the most economical, so thats a bonus if you do plenty of miles.
Not saying the connects are bad vans, but i think its better to stick with what you know, and the combo has obviously been reliable enough for you to keep it 5 years.
If you do go for a connect, make sure you self tap the bumper corners on! The amount of connects i see with these missing on the roads you wouldnt beleive.

mind you, our's are well secured with a safe-t-bar so nothing's going to knock them off, bent the bar a bit and fucked the sharan up, but a few bolt slater off it came and we were ready to rock and/or roll
