i may be a little out of order but........................

i recently sent my gearbox in because i was getting different wheel speeds on the dyna pack,
firstly i got a bill for 3 grand, when i questioned this i was told that they wanted to replace everything, i asked why and was it absolutely nessecary and he replied no, i asked about the wheel speed difference and he said the vc was fooked, i said to him to replace the bearings as he was in there at it but to leave everything else alone and to repair the vc

now heres my annoyance
the origonal quote to replace everything included 280 plus vat to cover the labour for the strip and rebuild, however having not replaced any layshaft or gears etc the labour cost remains at 280 plus vat

i rang and asked why the labour cost was the same and the reply i got was "i took it to pieces and put it back together so the cost is the same regardless of whether im replacing the shafts and gears or just putting back all your origonal shafts and gears

opinions?
am i being too hard expecting a lower labour charge
