Yes the clutch can (but will drastically shorten it's life), but the OE actuation cannot. The peddle will stick to the floor, the cable could snap or break the teeth of the ratchet mechanism. Continued launching will stretch the cable, cause the clutch to drag and basically be a totally pain in the arse.

Switch to hydraulic actuation and all of the problems will disappear, and then you're only faced with clutch life .

Personally, I would hydraulic the 6-plate single plate type first and see how you get on with that (however, tell Martin you are thinking of upgrading to twin plate later, as the arrangement changes slightly between the two, so it would be best to set the operation up to be compatible with the twin plate type just in case).
