i have had my views on this subject changed recently....until jan i had never worked with any polish workers and my only experience were the ones local to me who dont work and seem to spend the day hanging about the town.most are downright rude and make no effort to speak english and there have been a few attecks on local shop staff etc who have refused to serve them alcohol out of hours so my opinion of polish was low to say the least.
In january i got headhunted to another oil company in aberdeen,imagine my dismay on the monday morning when i find out 50% of the staff are polish
To my surprise bar none they are freindly,polite,bloody hard working and most do try to learn some english (all of them know the names for the stock items they require to do jobs) and some are even keen to try and learn some of the local lingo (which im happy to help with..... ive just taught one lad to ask girls if they would like some knobrot,he thinks its a chat up line

)
we had a new guy started last week,turns out hes a doctor back in poland.....how bloody bad can it be there that a doctor would want to come to aberdeen and make slings for 6 quid an hour?
So erm i think the point of that little speach was that immigrant workers aint as bad as folk seem to think,things must be pretty grim at home before they want to come here and do some of the shitty jobs they do...... some folk dont seem to think about that point
