What saved us is the fact we are an island. Poland was simply the first country that Germany invaded. It took the most damage and had the most loss of life. However the poles were amongst the hardest fighting troops of the war, in particular the air force pilots were second to none.
The fact is we are allies, and without each other it may have been a much worse world for us today. What saddens me is the fact that Poland was pretty much abandoned after the war, with very little aid received.

Also, Poland was most certainly not the 1st country to be invaded by Germany.
