Thanks to Nick for the 3 & 4mm answer. I had heard elsewhere that 3 & 4mm were from Germany, it now makes sense where they are applied.
I am not trying to scrimp on tyres, just wanted to know the law on limits.

I do rather like the bluetack idea as i could make up some really radical tread patterns like motor bike tyres....perhaps JJ and SiB could do some nice drawings for me to follow???
