Yep i know this is an Old Topic but is a S2 Escort Rs box (with the LSD) DIY rebuildable? i.e. if someone that knew the way round the Engine bay (but never rebuilt a Box) bought the new Bearings/Gaskets is it a Job for an Expert or could it be done? Is there any Write ups on how to do it on line??

I've done a search and not come up with a Lot (don't know if its just me being a noob) but every one seems to just buy a Rebuilt box and stick it in? is this just becose its easyer or Rebuilding yourself that hard to do?

While i'm on the subject, the box in question drives fine on load but when you are on overrun is Whines realy bad, does anyone know what causes this? (at a guess i'd say its the Lay shaft bearings that are dead) its the second box to do this in 6 months is it bad luck,wrong oil???? I would rather it not happen again and if i knew what caused it it would help
