What quality do you ultimatley want? if its watching on DVD on a 42" tv, Then I would go for a Bullet camera with 520TVL, Fast Films do a kit, its what I use, and you get everything you need, Camera, Mic, Battery Holder that takes 8 AA, and all leads and connectors. Then you either need a Video Camera with AV IN so you can use that as a recorder, I use a sony Mini DV. this is the best quality way to do it, but you can get Solid State Recorders that are good( The PDR100 that they do is nearly as good as Mini DV) if you want to do stuff for the net eg, YouTube, these are good as the footage will be already digitised and you don't have to upload it in realtime as you do Mini DV, there are differant ones but the MobiBox that FF do is good you put an SD Memory card in it and for every Gig you have of Memory you get 30 mins at high Quality. The bullet camers connect straight to it and it records sound as well.
If you want to capture video on track days tbh I don't think you'll get very good results from a digi still cam in video mode, but if you get the roll cage mount at least you can use it with either the Digi Still Cam or a Bullet Cam if you get one in the future, so it won't be money wasted.

Thanks for the reply......I'm not bothered about recording DVD quality footage...its just for recording laps at track days to watch on the computer afterwards and laugh at my driving
I was very impressed with the quality of footage the Canon took in Video mode so I think it might be worth a go......or may be just stick to the home made porn
