Now I agree 110% there - Floyd are probably the ONLY band that could have made it a true landmark historic event. Not even The Who could achieve that

Lets face simple facts. Muse are currently at the top of their tree, whether some people like it or not. They are also a very big concert draw. To a stadium like Wembley, that is a VERY big factor. Also a big factor is getting the current "hip/happening/cool/whatever" band of the moment as the opener - it adds street cred and since the band in question is very "cool" at this time, it gets a lot of publicity. Admittedly, that would also be true if they had got Take That to open the stadium - since their reunion has put them on the "cool wall" so to speak.....

I think U2 or the Stones would have also been good choices, but I really don't think Oasis would have been the correct choice. They just don't cut it these days. And to be fair, much as I am a fan, I don't think Bon Jovi would be a good choice either - as they simply don't cut it like they used to. Oasis would have been a good choice 5 or 6 years ago, maybe even a couple years less than that, and Bon Jovi would have been top draw about that timescale aswell, but these days thats not where they are at.

Personally tho - I wouldn't have any band as the opener - I would have an event. Maybe something like the fist, and only, live performance of Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds that was recently done at Wembley Arena. THAT would be a good showcase for a new stadium
