I learnt to wheelie on my old RD350YPVS....also learnt shift gears during a wheelie on the same bike. Owned a tweeked GSXR750j Slingshot now for over 8yrs.....proper wheelie machine
Wait till you first get your knee down.....thats a real rewarding feeling when your knee kisses the tarmac for the first time, just try to keep it to just being the knee and not the bike
