right need some help with setting up a wireless system in my parents house.

the scene:

1 desktop pc with pipex 2mb adsl, this is running on a wired modem atm.
1 laptop with wireless built in

i need to run the desktop on wires still to keep the speed up, ethernet?
i need to run the laptop wireless.

i need to know what equipment to buy to do both these jobs in one and most of the routers ive seen are only wireless and have no connection for wires!!

am i right in thinking i need a modem router?

also is their a speed difference between routers? whats the fastest, obviously cost effective.

any help appreciated
