No, they're fine, but you need to return to the sump below the level of the oil, breathe from both sides of the block, and ensure your vent pipe is large enough
The standard install is pish, but they will do you all the hoses and fittings you need if you call them - they were very helpful with me, sorted me out exactly what I needed
