The old Rockshox used to be pretty flexi but they upped their game in 2005 with the new Reba range. If you do any significant road mileage or like to ride out of the saddle then go for a lock-out. I dont bother with the remote lock-out myself as its so easy to reach down and turn the dial.

Fox customer service is 2nd to none. My Fork was over a year old and had done 1800miles of pretty mental terrain and they took it back and gave it a full rebuild for free! About to build the bike back up and see how much of an improvement it is.
