cut back a couple of inches from the plugs either way, or untill you get to fresh clean copper, and join using fresh wire - that way you will not be stretching the existing wires at all.

then to seal, use heat shrink on each wire to seal it niceley, and then loom tape all together so it looks factory


If you are bothered about remembering which wire goes where, do it one at a time and using joining wires to suit
