I believe it was a 'freshen up' as you put it, i'll have to dig out the receipt for it if i can be bothered.
Also, my neighbour worked at Brands as a head mechanic in the rally school working on Cossies day in and day out, so he knows his stuff and is currently building an Escort Cos from scratch, do you know what the first thing he said to me when he first saw my Escort ?

. infact my first engine was cooper rings and a wills triple layer gasket. it produced 379bhp on the rollers and i thought it was an ok build. afterall i used a very reputable company that has been around for a long time however when i got my new engine from abc/joe i gave them my old one as they had sold it on, part of abcs preps on there cars and engines i believe is to give them a "freshen up and new headgasket" to be on the safe side well when they took my old lump apart it had a fucked gasket even with the coopers rings the valves had been hitting the piston the piston had been bashing the head and this was on a 1500 mile engine as i say from a very reputable company. and i hate to say it but i think danny ended up scrapping the engine at his huge loss.
so as others have said its all about opinions and i personally would use abc any time and also bluesprint any time as i have found them to be very helpful even with the after care and have so far not heard any stories that worry me in the slightest.
infact i read in one of the ford mags about a reputable compant who i wont mention as i have no right but there engines were going bang so they took apart ones that haddent and found lumps of swarf in the sump. now i defo wont be going there
Bloody hell, no wonder its broken down, its got Bluesprint on the back of it, that'll be coopers rings and a shoddy rebuild, like i say, i have had no dealings with Joe and can only say what people tell me
