Sounds like the same situation one of our mates got herself into. She's a single mum too and needed her car for work. She got caught by the same FIXED camera 4 times on the way to her mum's house. She had only been driving two years. Obviously my mate was far more stupid than yours just based on the fact the camera was fixed. Anyway, point is she argued in court she needed her car for work and to take her kid to nursery, they didn't buy it and she got a 6 month ban. In those six months she had to give up her parttime job and her old banger bit the bullet cos it wasn't being driven. Your friend might be more fortunate but doesn't look good
