Your mates will be an autobox with a manual valve body i think, they are wot you use a ratchet shifter on usually, but i could be wrong. Is it a Torqueflite?

Used to love firebirds Alays wanted one when i was young, could go for a 1968 Dodge charger now though. Bit dear, n a crap car (drum brakes all round with up to 325hp!!)chargers really but look o so cool

I dont think they Escort will run that good numbers really, ive built it too heavy, and cant face rebuilding the overworked bits of chassis!! You never know till you try though! I only really did it as a practice run before doing the same to a capri, but its so much work i couldnt face it again though!
