The EOS 350D is as good as it gets (for consumer camera's that is), but the 18-55 kit lens doesn't do it any justice.
Go to a good camera store that stocks a lot of lenses. Buy a body only kit, and try as many lenses as u can.
Every lens is slightly different (even the same types), and because of product tolerances, u can get a bit of back- or front focussing (focus is in front of the subject). To get the best out of the equipment, try the lenses in the shop.
