Interesting topic, and ive been meaning to buy one for my own car for about 2 years

The problem with the knock link and my personal advice is simple, i have never used one. However, i think it will do what it says on the tin with a bit of experimentation.

Detonation, when heard through metal tends to be in the regiong of 6 - 10 KHZ. Now, a knock sensor is tuned to listen to this area and the device attatched to it has to interpret the volume and sporacity of this noise and decide wether or not its knock.

The Knock link is simply making YOU the device that makes the decision. It appears to have what is essentially. an analogue graph of the 6-10khz volume range with the loudest part being a larger LED. So in theory, you will learn what is normal for your engine and then any sudden rise will signal detonation and warn you to call it a night or get your Gold Card out.

Those who comment the ecu has a knock sensor anyway, with all due respect im not sure on the relevance in all honesty. The average Ecu cannot retard enough to stop detonation in an engine running double its intended cylinder pressures, the std sustem was never intended to have to cope with such retardation, and even if it did, retarding the spark wont stop detonation that was due to a clogged fuel filter or morrisons 34ron unleaded

Hope this helps...
