As said 1.6mm is a sparkler not a welding rod
I even find 2.5mm rods to be bollocks as well to be honest 3.2mm i would personally say is the easiest rod to use and 115 amps should be enough to melt these easily although i do find amperages do vary on plant to plant for actuall true output heat
