TIG is the daddy stick and mig are rough as arseholes
You should be able to rest the rod on the job and drag it round mate and it wont stick if you have enough amps on
As said 1.6mm is a sparkler not a welding rod
I even find 2.5mm rods to be bollocks as well to be honest 3.2mm i would personally say is the easiest rod to use and 115 amps should be enough to melt these easily although i do find amperages do vary on plant to plant for actuall true output heat
