What is the reason for fitting billet rear hubs on an otherwise standard setup, is there a significant weight saving?

The O/E one's are quite heavy so there must be a decent weight saving. I'm not sure if the billet ones have the 6 deg shims built into them, if they don't then it would make sense to have them as it'll save a good chunk on a 6 deg beam.

Thanks Dave. I don't think the six degree is built in, I have a 6 degree coming so wouldn't want to duplicate but I am all for saving a few kgs.

Glad the parcel got there, sorry that they are not 100% intact, the tiger seal was too strong but at leat you should get the size of what I need.

I was thinking the same, nice to have but no real benefit. I am only considering as need to remove mine for the new beam....if mk pulls his finger out and delivers

I only got mine as the guy I got my beam off had them for sale. Always been a fan of a bargain lol

It's less un sprung weight
Will in turn means when you hit a bump
And your wheel goes up , the momentum has less
Weight to push back down so your car should
Handle better , whether you will notice it or not

The shimms will do nothing towards a 6 degree beam feel matter of fact they actually do very little lol

I am a big fan of unsprung weight, wasn't sure if there was a significant enough weight saving.

As you say, you may not notice it but I do believe it all adds up.

My first car was an mg metro, I guess it made 70bhp on a good day, maybe 90? And if you took a normal 12 stone passenger you could definitely feel it being a little slower, fill it with 4-5 teenagers and you could feel the brakes struggle, bottom out the suspension over bumps and you would have to change down to 3rd or 2nd up big hills...100kg saving over the whole car has a big effect.

When you consider the cost of new bearings and the time it takes to properly clean and paint the original hub carriers it's a no brainer

These are CNC machined from T6 aluminium so they are a lot lighter than the standard items and very strong. They also have extra wall thickness for strength.

Sounds like excellent value to me. Plus the old hubs with bearings probably have some value to them to sell and cover some cost.

Must admit when I fitted mine they are a fair bit lighter than the original ones excellent quality as well mine are Mk ones
