Default My YB has stopped fueling

Hi All. I have a Dax Rush Sprint car with 300 bhp spec YB turbo and had an "Off" yesterday at Goodwood which was basically a simple slide sideways on the (short)grass then accros the tarmac onto the grass on the other side of the track. After this the engine would not start. I have checked crank sensor etc for any damage by grass etc but all looks to be clear. MSD wasted spark ignition seems to be fine with good spark. But she is not fuelling So I am a bit puzzled?

Plenty of fuel in the tank and pump is sending it throughto the rail at good pressure.

Any ideas?

Seems odd if there is pressure at the rail. I had good pressure at the rail on my205 but in fact the breather on the tank was blocked and could not supply enough fuel.

Check the breathers and maybe pop the rail off and pump through some fuel in to a tank.

Check the fuel pump, filter and supply. I suspect something is bent, blocked or restricted.

Lucky at Goodwood, the infield is forgiving but the tyre walls are full of sand on the outside.

Default Fuelling

Thanks for your suggestions. I have checked the tank through to delivery at the rail and all is clear. I fiited new pump/filter and fuel lines last year. I have had the rail off and injectors out. There is fuel in the rail, so I am beginning to think it may be coincidence that it gave up after the off and that it may be electrical or lack of signal etc from ecu as I seem to recall a splutter before going off.

I have checked all over the car and there is no damage visible at all. Maybe need to go back to the tuner/mapper I used and let them have a look

Default Dax Rush

Hi Tony.
Good to see another Dax. Mines an old girl (2wd) one of the early ones. I use it purely for sprint and hillclimb. Cosworth YB same as yours. I``m running around 300bhp. (It measured 260 at the wheels) with wasted spark ignition. Have you got a T5 Gearbox?

Heres a view off the back of mine at Goodwood last saturday. Best time was 93.67 seconds but If I had kept on the track with this last run it would have been around 89-90 seconds. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk8NGqkg7Vo

I have resolved my fuel problems now. It was not actually fuel in the end. although the plugs were not wet there was fuel on the piston crowns. We traced it to the dissy shaft/pinion rollpin had sheared and turned slightly so phase sensor was giving wrong signals to the ecu !

check to see if the 12v is at the injectors, if you have a spark then the phase, crank sensors are ok

one of the pins of each injector should have +12v when ignition is on

Hi Slider, thanks for your reply. I have resolved it now. In the end it was` nt fuel at all or lack of it ! We had established that it had voltage as you say, and checked all the timing marks which all lined up, except when we took off the blank lid on the distributor (I have wasted spark ignition) and found the shaft to be about 20 degrees out ! The pinnion had turned on the rolpin. So I decided to put a new rolpin in and then put a smaller rolpin inside that one to beef it up as it seems to be a week point. I know the rolpin is a sort of safety valve to avoid damage to more serious bits, but I will take that chance. I now think it was loss of power that caused me to drift out and go off the track at Goodwood.
See last reply for youtube link.
I`m off to Crystal Palace next weekend for the two sprint meeting (Motorsport at The Palace) and have noticed my starter motor is sounding a bit like its on its way out so thinking about one of the powerlight starters to replace it.
Cheers

Hi Tony,
Yep all sorted except, my starter motor is making funny noises! so I removed it tonight and found that the nose is broken off that holds the bush for the end of the shaft !
Had a good look at it and cant see anything that could have caused it. Nothing loose and nothing loose in bell housing etc.
The numbers on it dont seem to come up on google except the solenoid number comes up but can`t id it from numbers on starter casing. Its a Bosch and for a 2wd Sierra Cosworth. I may get it rebuilt or even a new Powerlite depending on the deals out there. Need to sort before next weekend!
