Default oil cooler and oil pressure problem cosworth

I have recently put a 9 row oil cooler onto my escort cosworth. I put the sandwich plate on the end of the arm between the filter. Now sometimes when starting the car the oil pressure takes a wee while to build up and the engine is knocking. Once the pressure is up its fine. I've noticed that it must be the oil cooler draining back into the sump as the oil level is rising above the normal mark and it must be the extra oil from the cooler and pipework......any ideas?don't want to feck my engine!

I assume the cooler is higher than the sandwich plate ? It may be worth lowering the cooler to reduce the drain back,
Or
Is the oil cooler mounted with the hoses at the bottom ? If so you can spin it over this will reduce the drain back .
No sure if a thermostatic sandwich plate would eliminate drain back

Well its a rally car, so I mounted on top of my radiator out of the way, and yes it is above the sandwich plate. Aye a termostated one might cure it right enough. Ideally I need to keep the cooler where it is so its well out the way of any hits!
