3 Pin Fault Code Reader Help
I bought a Draper Expert 3 Pin FCR the other day and took it round to dad's cabby today to see if we could get any clues out of it to help with the rough running.
On reading the destructions I have fallen pretty much at the first few hurdles now i am fully prepared to admit that it may just be me reading them upside down or something but I am getting so frustrated with the instructions it's just not true
I have also looked over the Gunson instructions too as they are the same unit with different labels (Please correct me if i am wrong)
1. DI states - Before carrying out these tests, disconnect the white octane and idle adjust wires from earth. Consult manual for location
Manual no use, and no white wires
GI states however to disconnect white octane and idle adjust plug from earth
OK so it's a white 'plug' not 'wire' so a bit more help there but where is the plug? Is it the one right next to the FCR socket near the nearside strut top???
2. There are three test procedures
a.Ign on, Eng off
b.Ign on, Eng on
c. Service mode
Ok that's clear and easy but then it proceeds to say
Ign on, Eng off
Ign on, Eng on
Ign on, Eng off
Ign on, Eng on
Service
So in fact are there 5 instead of 3? Surely if you have done the first 2 then the second 2 will just be a repeat. You see the confusion I have is it doesn't give any detail into the difference to the tests???
3. Finally (for now) if we are to surmise there are in fact 5 parts to the first 2 tests and not just a simple 1,2, then 3 the fault code tables don't tally with the ammount of test In fact if there are the first stated 3 test the tables still don't tally!!!
I gave up at this point
It seems that both sets of instructions are almost written without pauses between steps and/or proper heading and sub headings.
I honestly think this is a typical 'techy writing instructions' scenario as I get this all the time with technical clients when I build websites for them. They give me specs and instructions they way they understand, but then I have to convert it to an intuitive language because not everyone has a techy head.
Anyhow if anyone can decipher this and help me out with a step by step that would be great.
Please feel free to point out if I have been a daft sod and interpreting this will one brain cell. I just wanna get the job done
Yours now kneeling, swaying and slightly sobbing
