Default mondeo mk3 53 plate misfire

Hi chaps need some help urgent please.

Bought a 53 plate 1.8 petrol yesterday with 113000 on it and heres what happened.

Took the car home ran sweet as a nut.Parked up, took off the engine cover to find oil (looked like someone had topped up and missed or something it was clean oil) all over where the ht leads and plugs are.So i soaked up what i could, pulled off the ht leads one by one, took out the plugs one by one to change them, and changed the leads too. As i changed the one nearest the drivers side some oil i couldnt get out ran down into the plug housing, so as expected it smoked as it burnt off. Took it for a run down the dual carriageway, hit 80ish on the cruise control , and on comes the eml - flashing first, then solid. Its developed a heavy misfire on tickover - so much so the engines rocking and sounds about to stall, and its now very slow to pick up and is missing badly. The best way i can describe it is that its as if all the plugs are damp with water or something and there's that sort of heavy flutter if ya know what i mean, and the eml is still flashing, won't let me use cruise either - not sure if thats anything to do with it. I've took out the plugs and checked them they are fine, no oil or residue or anything. I put a Sealy obd reader on it and it came up with a misfire on cylinders 1234 - so immediately turned to coil pack. Changed this for a new one and ngk plats and new leads and its still the same and missing heavily. I cleared the codes and ran it to and from work a round trip of about 30 miles and put the obd back on and it's now showing misfire on 2,3,and 4. So chaps any ideas what else it could be.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance

Neil

Back to basics - are you sure that the leads are on properly?

Make sure leads are on properly, on the older zetecs especially they need a really firm push down to get them to seat on the plug properly.

Have you tried putting the old plugs and leads back in?
