Default Focus 1.8 Zetec really slow,

hey guy's im new to the world off ford, used to mess around with vauxhall's my previous car was a 1994 v6 astra gsi, time to grow up and i bought a ford focus 3dr on a V plate 1999 black top zetec, when i got it, it was cheap and it was some what hammerd by a chav had cut springs and a bodged air filter, since i bought it ive put a full set off G-max springs and shox's full new standerd exhaust and a new standerd air box, it was made it quicker only just but 1.6 zetec's are miles quicker just wondering if there were any known faults been looking at the cat as its on the manifold on de accelration when cold it's poping though the exaust which is standerd, its also drinking loads off fuel, any idea any one,

Sounds a little like the CAT has broken up inside, was the old exhaust full of loose crap when you took it off?
