24v cosworth top end rattle.. HELP
A friend of mine has a granada cosworth but it has a top end rattle, like its clattering when at high revs, drive around normally and its fine. Its been in storage for 7 years had oil and filter change. Like i said if you go over 4000 revs it starts to clatter, the higher revs the louder the clatter.. Anyone got any ideas as to what is causing it.. Just so you know, timing chain is fine, oil pump and oil light working as it should so were stumped.. Your help would be greatly appreciated, thanks mat

sounds like the chain tensioner blade is on it's way out, it needs to be replaced immediately otherwise it will destroy the engine.
remove front cover off the engine to get to it and the sump to remove the bits of blade that have fell into it!
this is a pic of it on the bottom left of the pic, you can see this one is snapped in half!!
it's number 5 on this pic

thanks very much for your replies. ive just been to see someone that thinks it is possibly one or two sticky hydroulic tappets. due to it being sat in storage for ages. an engine flush an another oil change should cure it.. it does make sense actually because apparently when its idling it sits going tap tap tap. he says he didnt flush the engine just changed the oil and filter.. does this sound right???
