My RWD escort, FocRS powered on bike carbs UPDATED17/12/05
Hi chaps , some of you are aware that im am currently building a S1 rear wheel drive ,
well im actually on with 2 of the damn things
the S1 is all my work from start to finish , but im still !!!!!!!!!! waiting on pannels so its currently collecting dust in the shop ,
The other is a original Genesis Mk 3 that had seen a dodgy owner after it had a fire near the fuse box , he brush painted it , let it go rusty and basicly didnt know what he was doing , this is where i stepped in ,
having the S2 rack car i wanted to try a RWD , But i dont like saphs and the S1 is going to be a road car ,
Bring n the genesis/fusion-mobile
this is how it was advertised , didnt look to bad in the piccys and the bloke said he was "preparing it " for rallying but somthing had come up ( i recon he just ran out of Dulux or his 6" brush had lost all its bristles
then i got it back to the workshop and stuck it on the ramp for a better look around , not to bad but was on the brink of a rot box and it again looked a proper mess!
I gave it a rub downand a quick lick of paint in the engine bay to make it a little more respectable and so i could see what i was doing , then stared to trial fit my proposed engine , Zetec , cross member , rack , turbo , gear box , u know the rest
once i had everything fettled , trail fitted and the first bits fabricated i took it all back off again and prepped it for a good paint , the inside went back to bare metal as it had been painted about 30 times , the engine bay had 10 different colours and there was that shitty tetrosyl everywhere
hears the end result , ( the outside , doors , etc will be done later in my mates oven )
befor
after
Back to the engine , basicly a Focus RS engine , modified sump to fit over the rack and member , relocated alternator and idler so the water pump goes the right way T4 blower on a " itll do for now " manifold , Bike carbs ( R1) and cusom plenem , Modified sump for starter motor , T5 box with a modified release bearing , ( the clutch assy is 15mm thinner than the cossy one ) Fabricated gearbox mount and WCXM engine mounts from retro ford Theirs loads of modding , fettling and altering i had to do but id be hear all day ,
The engine and box ar now fully built and back in the car , ill get some piccys up soon with it in place
the rear is basicly a cossy beam but ill get to that later once its all back from powder coating , Finishing the tanks and fuel assy tomorrow , if i get it all fitted ill get some piccys and post an update
oh and cooling will be done in the back hence the big hole in the boot fl oor , cant wait to start that , ( any good plumbers on hear )

should be ,
will be 350Hp in standard tune , then when it goes bang , or i can be arsed to pull it apart again im going for 450 pluss
i have all the bits hear but would be good to see what a standard foc rs engine can do with a big blower and 1000cc injectors , and it only has 4000 miles on is so again , would be a shame to rip it to pieces

Finally it's moving somewhere! Looking good! Seems like forever ago I was last over your way. Could do with a strut brace for the Molesta ZT so might trundle over some time next month or early Jan if you're about Is the white Cossie wheeled Fiesta ZT in one piece?

heeman , Pop over bud , kettles always on
Jay , thats the one mate , as i said it wasn all that from the piccys and the engine instalation was ermmmmmmmmmm dodgy , didnt buy the engine tho as i had other plans
UPDATE ,
well the engine , gear box , fuel cell, pumps ,swirl pot and hoses are all in but the camera bust ( flash ) so cant get any piccys for now , later i promise ,
i spent all saturday finishing off the inlet side of things ,
I had the head manifold all done complete with 8mm tails for vacume and idle should i need them , the carbs have been spaced but i need to link the 2 banks of 2 back up for the throttle cable ( head scratch !!as they have to be ballanced to perfection ) the main plenem had alredy been made aswell ,
saturdays work involved fuel rail and injector placement , fuel pressure reg , and i have attached 5 bosses to run ancillaris ,
4 of the bosses are directly over the ports , i thought this would be a good idea if i ever wanted o experiment with Nos , direct water injction , or possibly another bank of injectors ( cant see it tho as i have 1000cc injectors alredy) a fith boss is for sensors , map , barometric, charge temp etc , i can always add more should i need to but 5 will do for now ,
The Pressure reg is a Universal FSE one with vacume advance and a pressure gauge to the top so i can keep an eye on things . all Dash fittings to ensure no fuel leeks and looks awesome in place even if i say so myself .
The only prob i now have is thet it has got quite heavy and its only attached to the head side of things with 2" samco , to help things along im going to make a sort of Turbo damper arrangement to help keep the weight off the hose , Ill also have one for the turbo side so its gonna look pretty trick when all done ,
Bollox over with , hears the piccys

deffo mate ,
Ive always liked the mk 3 , even over the Mk 4 ,
i recon 3 is the new 1&2 , Not in the performance or motorsport stakes bit theyre certainly growing in popularity .

Looks stunning Lee, though 2 RST's as made as you've already got would be enough!
I'll keep an eye on this one, got a question for you aswell mate, do you custom fabricate weld in roll cages at all?
Keep up the good work!

Dunno even if itll work yet ????
Have absoloutly no idea what the difference will be with the plenem befor the bodies ,
someone said that it will be silly quick for responce / cut down on lag , something to do with a T/B turbo car always running on boost even if it is only a couple of PSI
well havto wait and see , i could do some digging and research but that would take the fun out of it .
BTW for idle speed controle ill have either a remote unit from say a XR3i or a manual bleed type that i can adjust as necessary .
the T/B's did come with a plunger type idle adjustment but i thought , seeing as they were designed for naturally aspirated aplications i didnt want my 2 bar of boost trying to escape or blowing it to bits

Thanks for all your comments ,
Dan , the best thing to do would be to build as much of the cage as possible outside the car and polish it all off , then build the rest in the car , weld it in a neatly as possible and polish the remaining sections in situe , " we have ways "
all
Just bought a new camera off flea Bay , 8MG pixel so will get some groovy shots for you all soonest

Just had a convo with a friend of mine and he's ben banging on about Zx12 t/b's and GSXR bodies being better , bigger etc etc ,
Now with all of my projects i try to keep things in prospective , simple and above all to a budget of " as little as possible "
The bodies i am using 41mm i think are from a R1 , why , ?? cos they were free , why have i painted the car White ans with a Toyota colour to boot , ?? Because got 6 litres free , Injectors although 1000cc low impedence ( or is that high ?? well the oposite of cossy ones anyway) and a small fortune to buy, i actually got them for £200 Management is MBE with all the trick bits but again the £1800 asking price was halved Big thanks to A.W u know who you are )
keep it real peeps , theyrs far to much money being thrown around by people willy nilly and TBH i dont think they get half of what they pay for .
I actually had a call fom someone wanting one of my cages , he was from down south , i gave him a price and he said " is that all " basicly he didnt want to buy one because he'd rather spend twice as much on half a job just so he could say to his mates how much he had spent on something .
Babble over , My point Although i own fusion ( its an extention of my hobbie and not a living i can assure you ) it doesnt mean im gonna spend silly money on big name products or have anything on my cars that the next man cant .
I also like to put down bench marks for people to go by , what will a standard focus RS engine take/make ?? well soon see , Not with a blue fin chip , £800 manifold £600 exhaust , pretty blue samco and a £1200 turbo but with a £300 second hand T4 Home made exhaust manifold and a free set of bike carbs .
that feels better
