Default Project XR3I 1988

Hello.
I have just collected my new project.
It´s a Escort mk4 XR3i been importede from germany in 2000
This is what you will call a "barn find", the car has been sitting i the corner off a workshop in 15 years and has only done around 130000km.
All breaklines and rear brakes has been changed, i can not find any rust anywhere

Jobs to do.( at the moment)
Get engine running, the idle is not great jumps up and down, and when i plug in the "cold start valve" the car dies.
Left door, rear panel and right front wing need a paint job.
New front window.
installing the rearspoiler.

The car has electric mirrors, electric windows, heated front window. Ford RS spoiler set, front, side and back, never seen these before.

after a quick wash.

i will be posting updates, not sure when the car will be ready for the road.

Hi.

A small update, and some pictures.
Fund one small rust hole in the windsreen frame, and some surface corrosion in the batterytray(surprise). will proberly take the rear sidewindow out to check the frame and repaint the black frame again
Fund out why the engine was flooding when i plugged in the Cold start valve(CTV), some one have put the plug from the "air valve" to the CTV and the plug from the CTV to the air valve, resulting in none of them working. The ignition timing was off, so now the car is running great.
And oh yeah... fund a mouse nest in the airfilterbox.
Have uploaded some pictures, the car is in really good shape, all most no rust, just small areas to treat. When car has it´s MOT( and i have paid a shit load in taxes) i will be rusttreating the whole car

TO DO LIST.( engine compartment)
Change the cambelt and waterpump, sparkplugs, airfilter, oil+filter, flush out of the cooling system, And a general wash off everything.

Hi. i work offshore from esbjerg to, living in Billund just 45 km north off Esbjerg.

The plan is to get it running and get the MOT on it, it will be some time before that happens.
Allmost everything that has been done on the car is rubbish, the front brakes is missing rubber things around the pistons, 3 new brakepads and ONE very old one .
The rearbrakes tha looked to be done, well new mounting bits, but OLD brakeshoes.
Did find out that the new ignition distribuator that was mounted is from a RS-TURBO anybody how knows if this will be a problem, the car starts and run okay, even on the 15 year old petrol which where in it, and the timing advance look okay.
the last owner was apparently not a mechanic or had any skills in that way, fortunaetly he did not get very far whit the project.

Okay time for a update.
Found a 105 HP engine. It´s been stripeed down, new gaskets, rings, main bearings, new valves, painted engineblock. Did a porting job on the head just to make everything fit, was surprised to see how bad the ports was ligning up with the intake manifold, din´t go mental just cleaning up the ports.
It´s in the car, will be starting the thing up tomorrow.

Did repair the RS front spoiler with some fiberglass, so thats ready for paint.
Next thing to do is the brakes.

Small update.

The "new" engine is started and running, found a correct dizzy for the ignition and that helped big time, the engine is running like clockwork.
And found out that i fu.... up when i "drained" the oil from my gearbox, suddently the 5th gear where missing, i had drained the oil from the bolt holding the shifting arm for the 5th gear well quick fix.
Found a new front hood and bootlid, got them painted along whith the front bumper.
The car has got a good spray whith waxoil inside and outside, all crossmembers and sills are treated, but still the looks in real good nick.
The brakes is done, and bleed.

Only thing left is the last assembly and cleaning.

I where missing a lot off small parts, so found a donor car.

see something missing....

whops

new bootlid, the old one where rusted away

front painted

no rust any where

Oh and here is old rusty, a 1.6 Savoy from 1988, the former owner has relly made a bad job on this, every thing is glued together , but any way i now have all the parts that i am missing.

whops, the radiator blew, so this is the last time this is running.

this is how the former owner repaired rust, glued together and no welding.

Small update again.
The car is all but finished, every thing is working.
Old rusty is al but broken, only need pulling the gearbox, and the rearwindow, then it will go for the scrapper
So the car is ready for it´s MOT and then i have to pay the TAX on it, it will proberly not be on the road before spring, and will live the next 3-4 months in the garage.

Only thing is to get the wheels painted and mount new tires on them.

And i will proberly be dropping the suspension 30mm.

This is the sparewheel from old Rusty, in mint condition.

some of the parts, on my mate´s trailer

The head has come of the car, wont be needing the engine it´s a Lean burn and not usefull for me.

the door have seen better days

The rear bumper need a bit off cleaning.

One of the options of whells

The option i proberly will be going for, the original XR3i wheels
