Default Mk4 fiesta w/ 1.7 puma engine.

I am going to put in a 1.7 FRP (Ford Racing Puma) engine into my s reg fiesta zetec-s.

I am going to buy the engine from new but my question is that suppliers say that they have the engine to sell and I know they only made 1000 Ford Racing Pumas, and on the inlet manifold it'll tell you what number that car is, if I'm buying the engine from new, that mark obviously won't be on there so then how would I be 100% that the engine they have supplied would be the FRP engine (pushing 153 bhp) and not the standard 1.7 engine pushing only 123 bhp as they both have the zetec-s mark on the engine?

I was under the impression that only 500 were made.

Why go through the expense of a frp engine when a standard puma engine is easier and cheaper to go hold of and with abit of money spent you'll see 150 plus from that engine...

they made 500 not a 1000, plus some spare inlets some that have no stamping on at all, i would put a 1.6 in there with a set of shawspeed cams and a remap and it will do 140-150bhp with a nice exhaust on there

A frp engine is just a stock puma engine with road fast cams over the top priced inlet manifold and a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold with a pain in the ass exhaust gasket. Better off just getting a std puma engine and give lms a ring for the extras, will cost less and make more power.

Aaah fair enough, money isn't a massive issue, I quoted for an FRP engine plus gearbox and was quoted £240 so I thought I'd make sure and there was 1000 made, 500 for Germany and 500 for the UK. Hence why there's 4 digits on the manifold.

That's exactly what I thought, which is why I wanted to know how I can tell the difference between the two.

I dont see why you want to have a racing puma engine you could get the standard to be more powerfull then a racing engine and have around say a grand left over for what it would cost you for a frp engine

I could do the same work to an FRP engine as I would with a standard 1.7 for better results. I'm looking to also replace the Crankshaft and upgrade all the valves, valve springs, tappets etc... I was also wondering if the clearance between the cylinders will allow me to bore them out wider and put lighter and bigger pistons in? again money isn't a massive issue, I'm aiming to take this engine and trying to get the most performance out of it whilst keeping it naturally aspirated.

I will take everyone they have in stock. A brand new from Ford standard Puma engine is about £2000 thats just the bare engine with no ancillaries

Yea it's cheaper to buy the complete engine than just the bottom end, I had cause to price it a couple of years ago
