Project French - Clio 182 Turbo Project.....
Thought I would start a build thread to keep a track of what work I am doing with the little Inferno 182.
Bought it like this from DTM cars and the weather was horrendous:
Today managed to spend some time on the car:
- Tracking set as pulled to the left very slightly
- Anthracite speaker covers fitted
- Standard engine cover refitted
- Stainless bolts for the airbox
- Replaced bolts from connectors in engine bay
- Tried adjusting exhaust but is blowing so getting stainless one sorted
From what I have checked the car already has the following fitted:
- Panel filter
- Powerflex front wishbone bushes
- Powerflex anti roll bar bushes
- Powerflex torque mount
- LED sidelights, numberplate lights and interior lights
- Philips silvervisions all round
- Black front diamond & bullets
- Gloss black dash strips and steering wheel inserts with orange detailing
These are some pics from when I finished my work:

Outside -

Loads of plans - mainly chassis work to get the handling superb.
Will be getting a full stainless exhaust with decat as well soon as standard exhaust is past it now.

Well another day and thankfully a day off so managed to start working through my list of jobs of the Inferno.
First up was sorting the aged headlights as these really let the car down when the paintwork is so good, used the Meguiars Headlight restoration kit which I would highly recommend.
Drivers side:
Passenger side:
Also fitted a cup racer tow eye as loved the look on the previous 172 I had. The car came with a 3/4 front plate but was unfitted so also fitted this. My private plate will be going on in a few weeks once the V5 has come through.

Today I wanted to sort the badges out on the car, didnt likethe black Clio badge and the Sport badge.
Removed these and got a standard Clio badge for Ł2 from thescrappy.
Also removed the front and rear diamonds and painted thesein anthracite as the front one was black and rear standard silver so lookedodd.
Definitely looks better in my opinion
Exhaust is really annoying me so that is due to be sorted inthe coming weeks along with a decat pipe, induction kit & lowering springs

Well busy couple of days for me - I bought some wheels off Gumtree and ended up driving a 625mile return trip to North of Aberdeen to collect them.
The wheels are lovely high metallic silver williams wheels with R888 tyres. Plans are to get the wheels repainted high metallic anthracite and put my winter tyres on and keep the R888's for track or sell them on.
Ordered some centre caps so waiting on them as well.
Managed to get some lovely snaps on the way as well:
Also picked up some paint for the calipers and some more detailing gear:
So today I had a day of playtime, first up a clean of the car, using Dodo Juice wax safe wash:
All clean and time for more work:
Calipers painted:
New wheels trial fitted:
All being well will be repainted this week and get the centre caps sorted. Also waiting for my Eibach Sportlines being delivered and have Pure Motorsport top mounts on the way as well.

Well wheels are in getting painted now and should be ready at the weekend, also will have some custom renault centre caps if it turns out the way I wanted.
Got a Ktec uprated gearbox mount to go on when I get a matching engine mount.
Also made a start painting some of the engine but ran out of time to finish it 100%:
Got the V5 through so I got some new plates made with my private plate on it and got them fitted:

Well I now have these all ready to go on before going for laser alignment.
Photos sent to me from paintbooth:
Now with tyres on and custom centre caps ready to fit:
Also got my Eibachs from Lithuania (much cheaper than from over here haha):
Now also got a Milltek stainless exhaust for a bargain price so that will be getting fitted soon as well

Also my bargain Ł90 Milltek exhaust:
Winter wheels now all ready to fit with custom centre caps, why pay silly money for Williams ones which arent the best design when you can customise some like this:

Well the repainted Williams wheels are on along with my Vredestein winter tyres and also managed to get the Eibachs fitted. Absolutely soaked off doing it but it needed doing haha.
I also snapped a lower strut to hub bolt and they dont appear to be the correct bolts so these were replaced along with proper spare ones:
And the result:

Finally got a day off so sorted all my bargain Milltek system out. For the grand sum of Ł180 I have a Milltek catback with 2 centre sections (1 is going to be a straight through section for trackday/summer) 1 is the standard Milltek centre section with the additional silencer.
I bought a brand new Milltek decat and genuine front fitting kit from Renault then got 3 new hangers.
The hangers have been filled with mastic to aid there strength and all being well will be fitted next week at MB Motorsport.
Also got a Milltek stainless adaptor for the olive fitting on a normal 182 if anyone needs one it will be for sale.
Cant wait as standard exhaust is blowing like hell now.

So quite alot progressed today.
To start with the front of the car was stripped down:
Struts as removed from car - dirty and looking tired:
Cleaned, painted and assembled with new Pure Motorsport top mounts:
Strut tops drilled and paint covered to prevent issues in the future:
All fitted and matching strut brace fitted:
Also got rid of the standard induction system including the acoustic valve setup:
Whilst the front end was off I painted the following in satin black:
- cup splitter
- fog surrounds
- upper grill
- lower grill
A nice little bargain also turned up courtesy of my brother (Matty1995)
So what are my impressions on the upgrades - turn in is now much nicer and nasty top mount knock has now gone. ITG sounds nice, not intrusive and feels slightly smoother.
Just waiting for my spacers to arrive and possibly a few other bits may find there way onto the car.

Well fitted the 16mm spacers and unfortunately they are to wide so the wheels sit outside the arches slightly.
No spacers fitted:
Spacers on:
So they have been removed and decided I will get some 10mm spacers with a Pure Motorsport stud conversion.
With that disappointment gone I cracked on with some minor bits, new rear numberplate light and fit the front induction kit bracket that my standard airbox never had:
Missing bracket:
I struggled to get a second hand one and was quoted Ł20-30 for a second hand one which seemed like robbery so I got onto Renault and got a brand new one for Ł10 delivered.
All fitted and induction kit aligned:
Also changed the tired looking numberplate light:

Had a visit to MB Motorsport today to get the Milltek catback exhaust and decat.
I had filled some standard exhaust hangers with silicon and rubber to make them last compared to the normal mounts.
Fitted this and am very happy with the noise and quality - is quite a quiet system but very well made.
Old Vs. New - Never realised how heavy then standard exhaust was until today:
All ready for the stainless:
All sorted looking great:
Got the brakes getting fitted shortly as well

Well I havent updated this for a short while.
Since the last update I ended up buying another 182 as it was only pennies. This was cleaned up and sold on for a profit.
The way it arrived:
And the worst bit:
All clean:
And before I sold it:
Back to the Inferno now....
Had the brake upgrade all fitted:
Also got it all cleaned up and finally some decent pics with the Milltek exhaust on:
Should be some nice bits arriving over the festive period as well

Lovely car. Good job on the turn around with the silver 182. I was really tempted by a blue 182 a couple years ago but couldnt justify it as a daily when I do atleast 50 motorway miles a day.

I use mine as a daily and haven't seen less than 32mpg and if being careful can easily get 37mpg. It is always ran on V-Power Nitro and serviced properly.
The silver one on the other hand returned 26-28mpg doing the same journey at the same times but was always ran on 95 ron fuel and hasn't been serviced properly judging by the lack of power and terrible mpg.
Bargain little cars for a daily or a track car

Well a Christmas update - carbon time!
I bought these Carbon foglight blanks but not 100% on them when I tried them on the car - unfortunately I did forget to take a picture.
I have flattened them back a little bit and repolished them with my machine polisher and they look lovely but may end up for sale again.

Then as a Christmas present I got these carbon bullets with orange decals off my brother (matty1995 on here). Ironically I got him a cup spoiler for his 1.2 so we still had a car day in a way.

Got a big update coming in the next few days and will change the direction of the project quite abit.
I will be getting a Whiteline RARB - had one on my old flame red Clio and made a nice difference. Would rather get a second hand one as want to paint it a different colour anyway.

Yeah they are quiet hard to get hold of, I was lucky. Getting one in a group buy from tweeks, they hold there money quiet well too but always need painting as the factory stuff is pants! I've just had my one for the astra galv dipped so hope it holds better than the paint.

Well it seems I cant help but buy parts these days.
With some help from Stu I seemed to have obtained the hardware for a GT25 turbo conversion as well as yet another set of Speedline wheels, now 2108's to go with the Turini's and Willy wheels.
Here are some pics of the newly acquired parts:

The GT25 conversion will not be instant and will be built up over the next 6 months ready to be fitted. Thinking of Ktec pistons and rods as well to ensure reliability as well.
Going to get a wheel on the car tomorrow so can decide what colour for the refurb.
