Yeah that's gonna be a pretty big moment I can tell you!
A lot of what Kyle & Ashley have talked about is the drive-ability side of things.
Although I didn't get a lot of miles in on the 351w, the whole old school carb'ed thing didn't offer very accessible use-ability.
That might sound strange given the large capacity V8, but it wasn't straightforward to get the best from it.
I think this time round especially with the move to a properly mapped ECU, I'll get a lot more out of the driving experience.
Cheers
Iain
PS have to ask - yours back from the paint shop yet?!

Thanks folks.
I'm very pleased with the way it's shaping up!
Kyle sent me a movie file, I'll see if I can post it here.
I thought it sounded pretty good, but turns out this was only half throttle!

Making good progress now folks.
The engine's in it's new home!!
Looking good!
Kyle & Ashley have been doing loads, but as is the way with these things as you cross one thing off the list you think of two more to do. They're flat out on it to try and finish it for Sunday and I can get over to pick it up.
Will keep you posted.
Cheers

I am doing exactly that... and so did a friend of mine, he custom made his tank, I have already made a tank but have decided to go for different design this time..., remember to allow for all of the surge tank filters pumps etc...

The lads are still going well.
Everything's plumbed in.
Ashley's going to mount the ECU tomorrow & tidy up some wiring but they're hoping to turn the key tomorrow morning & if all is well run it up through the gears

Nice build.
This give me inspiration to continue my own build.
I also have a sierra converting to LS1 engine. But i also do and have done allot more.
Maybe i should start a thread here......
Looking forward to the finish build. Keep up the good work

Yep, write it up mate let's see it! Sounds good
I'm afraid I haven't done much work on this in it's second or now third evolution, but I did all the initial build in it's original road going guise.
I don't have anything like the spare time I would like to have, so in order to see it finished, and finished well I'm better off calling in the pros!
The latest on mine is that virtually everything is done, but getting a full clutch is elusive so the boys are going to bleed the system and it see if it helps. I'm passing by today so will pop in if I can. Fingers still very crossed for driving home tmw!!!

Clutch beat them I'm afraid, so no car today. Gutted!
Suspecting a dodgy m/cylinder.. Have 7 spares sat here at home but no chance to get one over to them...

Got my hands on some more Gp A flat face mo's and picked them up from my folks at the weekend. Was a good find on Gumtree! 5 in total and two had had repairs, which I knew about. I'll get them checked out for straightness etc then get them powder coated. Hoping I'll have four straight, air-tight ones!
I'll run the track day tires on these and keep the others for road & wet track etc.
Kyle and Ashley are now off to the 'States today (hence the mission to finish the car on Sunday) on a LS engine buying mission for their business so whilst I'm playing the waiting game I've been researching my clutch issue. I'm beginning to suspect the clutch slave cylinder more than the master cylinder. Given the whole TKO & (old) Ford V8 package the kit car cobra forums are a useful reference & it seems lots of folk are having trouble with this little fella;
So as to not waste time I'll order a new seal & spring kit from the original supplier. If it turns out to be the master cylinder, well I have got plenty of spares on hand!

This really has confirmed what i want to do in the future engine wise. Im really fed up of yb agro and want some n/a fun in a base model 3 door.
Great to see the guys your using can offer a package as i really don't have the interest in doing it all myself lol.
Will be keeping a close eye on the thread. good luck with it all

Broken link I think there mate?
Quick update;
Waiting to hear back from Kyle when he gets back from USA so we can things finished off.
In the meantime I found a great powder coaters near me (John Wilkinsons, Shavington). So I loaded up my 3 day old company car full of wheels!
Managed to get 4 bare Comp's, plus one fitted up with a tire, a full set of M3 wheels with tires, 4 new tires for the Comp's and 2 new tires for the M3 wheels all in the back! That's not bad going I think.
Anyway, got everything back this week. They did a cracking job on the Comp's especially seeing how well used they were. Now looking really good I reckon.
So now I have two sets of gpA Comp's the same, one with rd biased Toyos that I can use in the wet too, and these ones with a track day tire.
Looking forward to using them - just need to finish the car!

Pleased to report the boys are back on the car, or more specifically the clutch over the last few days, but after a bit more head scratching and swearing, it seems like the release bearing is the culprit so a new one on the way.
Of course it mean't going from a virtually completed car to this;
Oh well, second time lucky. Reckon Ashley will be glad to see the back of me by the time this is done! I'm so looking forward to getting behind the wheel now. So close I can taste it...

Yeah I don't think they were too bad. I paid £65 per wheel which included fitting & balancing new tires to 6 wheels, refitting two others and disposing of 3 tires. For a regular set of 18" M3 wheels that's only £260. Quite a few specialists are a £100 more, and generally charge for disposal on top. Many don't powdercoat the inside fully either as I found out last year!
Regarding the shifter, the actual mechanism is whatever Tremec send out with the TKO's (think you can configure it three ways for position if memory serves). But the gear lever itself was done by MDA to give me the position I was after, and it's topped off with a Lancia Integrale final edition gear knob I had stashed away from my Integrale days..
Cheers

It's ready to collect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's been out for a brief run with Ashley at the helm. Turns out it's a bit of an animal
New release and pilot bearing done the trick for the clutch...
Collecting it on Saturday - can't wait!

Ok folks sorry for the radio silence - had a busy weekend of it!
Well I survived the lashing rain and finally brought the car home on Saturday (in one piece)
I was pretty gentle on the way home to say the least. With Kyle's warnings still ringing in my ears as I left, and the awful weather, I had to fight every devil on my shoulder saying "floor it, just once!"
It was a shame to get a nice clean car so filthy but to be fair it drove well on the way home. Traction control was my right foot.
In terms of how it went, well the engine runs sweet as a nut, and it's a whole different ball game to the 351w which preceded it. It's got really good manners, and everything you'd expect of a well mapped, well built modern engine. Quite a change from before!
I've done a crappy phone video of a few stationary revs..
I'm afraid like most phone pics and vids it doesn't quite do it justice. As Kyle had already mentioned the exhaust is probably holding me back now that the engine was making 480bhp. You can just sense the pressure struggling to find a way out of the exhaust when you're near it. I still fancy a side exit system - on each side of course - but that will have to wait for now. I still have plenty of power to contend with..
Here's a few other pics as the car stands now
Purposeful rather than show queen you might say. I've got some jobs to tackle over the next few weeks.
I need to tidy up the interior now, perhaps with a bit of paint touching up here and there. Fit the passenger seat and harness. I've moved the battery again, so will locate the new battery tray in the right place.
I need to fit my track wheels and see what clearance I (don't) have with the 225's fitted, and then also look into proper geo set up - hopefully someone local to me in Cheshire (any recommendations welcome).
I also want to check my prop to exhaust clearance as I can hear a few little knocks under certain circumstances so I might need to tweak the exhaust hangers or bushes to deal with that.
And lastly I need to drive it! Kyle reckons to get a couple of hundred miles in, and report back with the car for an oil change and nut and bolt check. I've seen a small oil weep from underneath so will look to get that sorted too.
Above all else I want to get to the point where I can begin to understand how changes in suspension set up, and ride height etc alter the characteristics of the car, so when I go to a wet track day, or a dry sprint for example I know what I need to be doing with the set up so I can enjoy the day.
So far the signs are good though. The car is moving closer to where I want to be. The engine build is a credit to Tim Adams as well as Canems (ECU, loom and mapping), and Kyle and Ashley (Pushrod Performance respectively) worked like trojans to get everything back in the car and working. They did a great job and I ended up with a drive in and drive out solution there and can't thank the boys enough for the work they put in.
Cheers

Hi Mark,
It's 3" twin to the collector box in front of the rear diff, and then single 3" to rear silencer if I recall correctly.. I'd quite like to keep it twin through the centre of the car, then to an oval box each side before the diff (where there's a depression in floor pan) then sneak out each side using some 4" rolled flat/oval. We can dream! If it wasn't for track day noise limits I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I don't want to spend money on a system only for it to fail at the noise check..
Nash, I've been to Blink (buried earlier in the thread) and they seemed knowledgeable as well as local to me, but I think full set up was something like £7-800? Unless I misunderstood, but that's more than I afford by a long chalk. I've got touring car geo I can copy (or at least give me a reference point) for starters. I think I may head back to them and see what they can do and check that price out as well, but I want to check out other possibilities too.
As for engine and ECU costs it's a piece of string question depending on spec etc. Give Kyle a bell on 07890 257 385 as he's the LS specialist at Tim Adams Racing Engines. He's a nice chap and happy to talk you through it. I definitely benefited from having the main man at Canems (Dave) map it for me on the engine dyno, because Tim Adams worked with Dave in developing the Canems package for the LS engines in the first place.
Cheers
