Mk indy 2 seater track toy, she's running, quick vid
Some of you may remember me buying this a year ago, basically its sat in the shed since then as ive been busy doing other things but now its time to have a look at it and get something done, its an Mk indy car running ford gear and a pinto engine on bike carbs,
This is how it looked when i got it,
first thing was to get it up on stands and have the supposed 2.1!! pinto out and on the stand, the pinto was expected to have a ported head, v6 pistons, high lift cam, vernier etc etc. I took it apart to find no head work, no vernier, .5 oversize standard pinto pistons, number 3 big end cap on no 2 rod going by the markings! stuff like that so a full on build with forged pistons etc is going ahead.
Few pics of the engine stripped nothing special here really,
After stripping parts off it and seeing what needs replacing, turns out its alot!, wiring is all bodged up, dash is an complete abortion but oh well at least i know it should be done right this time around. I scotched over the fibre glass body ready for its new coat of paint, masked it and then gave it a light etch coat and the went over with primer and colour, i think it looks better than bright orange,
Today i set to cutting a new dash from some ally i had about, will be covering it in some black foam backed material of some kind to neaten it up, here's some of the panel and gauges i purchased for it,
Hope you like all comments and ideas welcome, this is how i left it today ,

cool little project mate I know the feeling of coming to something that the wiring has been botched and other stuff differently speced as youve been told currently doing a custom moggy for someone thats been left the same !!

Done a bit more today, cleaned and painted up the calipers along with painting the underside of the front arches, used some nice new black rivets to secure them back onto the car.
I also painted the side strips, they did start up like polished ally, so scothced them over and etch, primer and a coat of red paint, i also used some black rivets there to tidy it up.
As for the dash i actually started that last week, but yesterday i cut the holes for the gauges and lights, then covered it in some foam backed black material and secured it in place just temporary for now. Engine block and head is now at the machine shop to be done, the spec is gonna be:
forged pistons
cossie rods
high pressure oil pump
ported head
kent cam
single piece valves
3 angle valve seats
vernier pulley
lightened flywheel
all bottom end balanced
plus running on bike carbs
4 branch stainless side exhaust system

Well ive been doing a bit more to the indy recently, car is going to a company called pdq who specialise is bike carbs and set up race bikes, they also have a 2wd dyno so off to them for the carbs to be set up and see what power she makes, just need to replace the wheel studs with some longer ones and change the tyres to some yoko A048's,
Had a few prob swith the engine not reving out past 5.5k, it was down to the fireblade fuel pump not being able to suplly enough fuel so i changed it over to this set-up,
few pics,
