300 bhp should not pose a problem. forged rods, pistons and a steel crank, uprated oil pump, steel ML HG, gt28rs turbo on focus rs manifold, megasquirt efi, big intercooler and pipes, 440cc/min injectors and an uprated walbro fuel pump would be a good start, id say in the region of 3 grand if you do the work yourself, then you will need an uprated gearbox and clutch of course, and also some better brakes. Alternativly buy something thats faster already.

my advice would be dont waste your money, stick it out for another couple of years,
you ll pump ££££ into 1.6 to get more power then when i come to selling up you ll get shit all for it, save your money and when insurance allows just buy a fast car

The 1.6 Focus engine is completely different to the RS so you can't use the manifold and it's not a strong engine so you're very limited to how much boost/power you can run. People have done it in the past (think van aaken) but they almost all went bang pretty quickly.
There is one company doing it that seems to be having some success if want no more than 200bhp http://www.oc-motorsport.co.uk/
It's technically possible but it's a tricky engine to tune, especially as if you go mental tuning it going the N/A route it will never have enough torque to haul around the relatively heavy Focus. Then there's the gearbox which is as weak as a kitten with the flu.

oh BTW you're not going to get much change from £5k from even a very basic turbo conversion...seeing as there are decent RS's going for not much more than that it's a question of how much you want to be different?
If you want a decent, reliable focus for around £2k get a 2.0 ESP, probably the best of the bunch with loads of tuning potential.

By the time of the Focus, the 1.8/2.0 used the 'black top' Zetec engine, which was a revision of the earlier 'silver top'
The 1.6 was a Zetec-SE, and was from the same family as the 1.25, 1.4 and 1.7 engines, developed by Yamaha. Totally different design, with an alloy block. Inlet and exhaust are on different sides of the head too. Don't think any parts are interchangeable.

The earlier Zetec engine, the 'silver top', was basically the same in 1.6/1.8/2.0 form. All shared a very similar design, with different cylinder heads.

I think you'd be much better starting off with a 1.8/2.0. Turbocharging may overcome the torque issues to some degree but, if you started with a bigger engine, you'd get far bigger gains for your money with turbocharging, as people have a lot more experience turbocharging the bigger engines.
But, all that said, at 19, I think insuring any car with major engine modifications would bankrupt you!

steer clear of loud exhausts and the like, people will just think you are a b#* end, as said keep it subtle and people will give you the respect you deserve.
