Default 84 1.1 Escort 3dr recommision, not a thing done but i moved home!

Picked this up yesterday with the intention of it being a better home for my 2 litre silver top than my mk3 Si fiesta i was fitting it too but at the moment its more a project to get it back on the road after 12 years off it. Showing 59k on the clock and has loads of books and papers in the glove box with no signs of welding (although it might need some) im hoping its gonna be a good little car. Im not sure of its condition due to the weather been so poo and the cars still on the truck at my mates yard until he gets back from spain in 2 weeks so for now its just these pics, the snowy ones being mine and the others the Ebay sale pics. Enjoy

picked her up like this

then this happened

then it got worse!!!

we got stuck at one point due to a transit driver turning a hill into a ice rink but thanks to some pols with some plaster thrown under our wheels we got through

then parked up in the yard until this weather clears

the sale pics

looks like its gonna need the front valance and the drivers wing but then again i might leave her rusty for the sleeper look and spend the money on some carbs instead lol

the idea has gone through my head, if i go all the way and rwd it with 5.0 V8 power il mini tub the rears and fit the new 9x16" lenso BSX wheels but for now banded steals are gonna work

has anyone got pics of a zetec engine mount modification to fit the mk3 bay? also can anyone help me out on the wiring side of things? i have a mk3 fiesta si in me garage im considering breaking for the flywheel and loom so i guess il have all i need to get it running with my silver top? anyone got a good RST box for sale? gotta be LSD, i think a 2 litre deserves it

still no updates as i cant get into the yard were the car is to get the chassis number off it so i can apply for the V5, just hope i wont need to get a VIC check done as the cars not on DVLA records.

have decided on breaking my fiesta Si rather than selling it so i have the flywheel, gearbox, loom and ignition components needed for the 2 litre convertion, should be fun

well good news is DVLA do have the car on file, the V62 form is in the post, bad news is its going to take upto 6 weeks for the log book to arrive!!

so im doing what i can without the car, insurance is changed over from my old mk5 fiesta ZS which amazingly is costing more!!! must be cos this car would be alot harder to repair if damaged. going to get a new battery and wiper blades for it over weekend as i no the blades are dead! then il fire it up, check all the electrics, hopefully drive it up and down the lane and book it for a MOT (or sort the obvious things it needs for it) hopefully it will pass without any structural problems! a few people have looked at the car up my mates yard and they all think its solid which is good.

bad new is the car has had a shocking respray!!! the paint is not sealed and powdery and the over spray is amazing, colour coded header tank and screen wash bottle anyone lol (yes it really is that bad) but i now no the cars not original so im not going be to careful about keeping it that way which has free'd me up a little.

will start stripping my fiesta si soon for its gearbox, flywheel, loom and whatever else and get the engine prepped, i need to fit the correct direction water pump as the guy who built the engine up for his mk5 xr3i didnt fit the 1.6/1.8 pump!

also toying with bike throttle bodies but i still researching this and unsure! want to find a LSD BC box too but then again after reading alot on here about strength i might go for IB5 box. does anyone no if i can convert my hydrlic clutch IB5 box to cable? probly easier to fit the correct brake servo parts making it hydralic.

will update with new pics soon

small update as i still have not got onto the car! i now have a log book for it and i need to get it on the road as a 1.1 as im moving from harlow to nottingham next month and id like to drive it up there, just hope it can cope with a zetec engine and rst box in the boot!!

as i say i now have a lsd RST gearbox which is a good start. looking for a flywheel though as i sold my fiesta si due to the move and lack of space to break it.

the even better news is that as my misses wants me to move north i told her i want a driveway and garage in our next place (the rent on my 2 bed flat in harlow is more than a 4 bed house in nottingham) which im looking forward to so much as i struggle with space were i live now.

plan is to build it up and try for a fwd ford NA record on the strip while i gain the turbo parts then go for that record too. big dreams and claims but at least its something to try achieve.

i promise photos and a report on the legalising process soon, fingers crossed she wont need alot of work

SHES ALIVE!!!

13 years off the road and she lives. Put a new battery on it today, checked for oil which looked very clean indeed, had slight pressure in the water tank so knew she had no leaks there, turned the key and nothing! Re did the battery earth as the wing it was bolted to fell apart which needs looking at. Found a dodgy wire on the starter after scratching heads, reconnected it and presto, she turns but still not fired. Whipped the filter off and with the help of sum carb cleaner it fired. Got 1 noisy tappet and blown exhaust need sorting, the water hoses had all gone hard so we flushed a load of water threw it, i will do a chemical flush at some point.

Then went round the car to do a pre mot check over. New wipers fitted, needed a new T piece for the washers as the plastic had gone brittle. Lights all work, just need a indicator bulb. Dash seems to have no power at the moment, have no blowers but the radio works lol, shame its not FM!

Its moved itself forward and backwards a little so clutch is ok, bit high but its not got to last long as the new mechanicals are nearly ready to go in. Just gotta check the brakes work, hand brakes nice and low on the handle and theres fluid in the pot so fingers crossed she will have a MOT next week or ill have a massive list of welding to do and she will be moving 120 miles to my new home on a truck! Aim is to drive her though.

New photos to follow

had a box turn up from RS Bitz yesterday with RST calipers, hubs and discs to go over the driveshafts that are on their way with koni shocks and springs. waiting on my flywheel, crank sensor and engine loom which hopefully is on its way, bit worried as it was the first thing i paid for when i started ordering up bits.

my training for my franchise has been put back a month now due to the bank being arseholes and slow at processing things so i might be doing the engine swap in the next 2 weeks as a new standard exhaust to get it through a mot is Ł66 and for only a months use is pointless so as soon as the bits ive ordered through members on this site show up i think il get cracking on it.

1 thing i have noticed is the bracket the engine bolts to only has 1 bolt through it being a 1.1, im assuming i drill a second and the mk5 mount lines up and the wing should be strong enough? well i hope so anyways

exhaust
fuel system (tank, lines, pump)
some 15" steal wheels as im not fitting the escort gti wheels to it, to new looking for my liking
need to do the fab work to the mount and need a gearbox cover plate but thats not hard to find

then il get it taxed and tested and start the lightweight mods

parts collected are

rebuilt zetec silver top 2 litre
LSD gearbox
koni shocks and springs
rst front hubs and brakes
refurbed driveshafts
escort gti loom and flywheel
new clutch
some rare cvh engine mount (according to some website its rare and i found it on ebay so bought it, not sure if i need it)
