so after getting it home and driving it for a few days i had to stop using it as the tyres were bold
So at this point i decided to strip all of the interior and start to find all the welding it needed! As you will see it wanted all the usual!
Front corners of the floor, the little plate that joins the inner wing to the main body, battery tray, seat mounts, inner sills, outer sills, the back corners of the sills, rear wheel arches had rotted away! ans so on!!!!

so after many hours welding all the front was done and then all new running gear at the front! The whole car is poly bushed and there are new discs, pads, shocks, ball joints steering rack, brake pipes, shoes, drums, bearings, everthing!! Im spending the money now and hoping i get five good years and at that point i dont mind if it wants more work! To be honest most people would have just scrapped the shell. I wanted it because i have always wanted a white one after having two red and a silver one. And its an early one which suits the little bits i have!

Theres a few more pictures but i dont have time to find them all at the moment! And theres only so many pictures of welding i can take!
At the moment the engine is being worked on by a local builder, the wheels are of being coated and some toyo R888's are on there way! There are a pair of ERST seats being repaired to go in and some harnesses on the way. The aim is to get it MOT'ed ready for the shows and when the engine is ready have the old one out and paint the engine bay and drop the new one in. Simple haha!! But the main aim is just to have a car to drive to the shows during the summer!!

It looks fairly tidy but its not going to be perfect! The main reason for building it is to use as a toy. I have had a 1900CVH in my cupboard for years now and finally have the money to do something with it! Id like to do track days in it but may just go to places like bruntingthorpe ETC as its a little cheaper than a track day, just for a bit of fun! And id like to go to show with it and use it as much as possible! Im not paining the whole car but i have done a few little blow ins and will have to do something withe front panel. In time the bonnet will be painted and the drivers door as its not right! Also next month i am ordering coilovers as the rear suspension is far to high at the moment!

as you can see, i had a little trouble with the rear wheel arches! they were really rotten so i spot welded the outer to the inner, cut off the lip and i also had to make my own lower part of the arch. A real bodge i know but it has worked and is not noticable really! Could have fitted arches but there is no rust there now so wasnt worth it for what the car is made for!!
Had to paint the passengers sill and the lower part of the quarter as i had to weld the sill and the paint around the filler neck had been rubbed down and never painted properly! The side skirts when i got the car were hanging off when i got it so i had to mount the using ally angled bar and screw them on. They look ok now and a good solid repair! The whole car is wrecked so the main thing is just to get it back to a good useable condition!

heres what i mean about the rear arch. Both were the same, the lip was gone so i trimmed them back and welded them up. A real bodge but if it works then it is fine for now. Ideally in the future a btter shell would be the way to go!!

TBH that looks like a really good shell. The job on the rear arches looks fine, they're under the kit anyway. Normally you'll find the rear arches are totally gone. You'll just have to invent a new way to attach the kit but if you've done all that work so far it's hardly going to be a problem for you!

The arches are on, had to weld little tags on to take one of the holes! The original fittings were rubbish but found and alternative fixing!! The side skirts are now screwed on along the top and are solid now! The car will be at a few shows over the next years and mainly at early escort meets as two of my mates have mk1 mexico's!!
My tyres turned up today at last and the half cage is being powdered coated at the moment! The wheels should be done by the end of the week.
The aim is to get the inside put back together as ive had the dash apart to remove some unwanted wiring and move a switch!
The shell is ok now but was sole destroying when you start and know youve got a few months of hard work to put it right!
And i agree the xr2 should be seen more. Its a very underestimated little ford! Not the quickest but everyone has had one or driven one and must have enjoyed it!!

the next tricky job is to make a little plate to repair the holes in the front panel where it joins the wings and get my mate to lead it up and then fill it and do a little blow in!! I like the car how it is and dont want to paint it all! Found some carbon door cards too but they are a fortune!! Where can i get gaz coilovers at a good price??

Welding is a skill you need when you buy a ford. TBH i do lots in my job, im a mechanic by trade, semi fabricator because the job means i have to, and really semi painter because its a skill of its own!!!! But at least that way i have done the whole thing myself!!
Yep im affraid mk2's and mk1's are becoming few and far between! Look at FITP, it should be full of these and TBH sometimes its all new fiesta's which is fine but some more early ones would be nice The same as the FRST, look at the fiestaturbo website and there are not many actual rs owners. I think the last count i saw see 90 max!! Dont quote me though. Heres a pic of mine was nice!!!
And my last mk2 that Paul Woodford brought
And a crap SI that i brought that was so slow you could push it faster!!

Just a little update!
Cant really do much at the moment as the wheels are off for a quick restore so its stuck in the car store next door to the workshop i work in!
The wheels are being powdercoated and i have a set of toyo r888's sat at home ready to go on them! I have a set of harnesses on there way to me and im waiting to be paid to order some coilovers as with no interior the arse end is far to high!
Spent the weekend fitting the roll cage and putting the dash back together. I also moved the boot release switch to with teh rest of the switches as i have no centre console anymore! Also got it working again as the wiring was p@:s poor and it kept playing up!
My main aim is to get it MOT'ed by march-ish and get it to FITP even if im still using the just run in 130k engine! LOL Does anyone know if the XROC have a stand at FITP as i may join them and go on there stand??
Next few jobs are to clean out the inside of the doors and rear quarters and seal up the rear arches from inside then get a battery box to move the battery and should be somewhere near able to MOT it! After that its just odds and sods to get it working spot on and start having fun all summer long!!!
heres the latest 3 pics!!
p.s, if anyone has a fan speed knob they can spare let me know as ive never had one yet and it would be helpfull LOL

Well i finally got all my wheels back and fitted the tyres! They are not the right colour silver, more like a platinum silver colour but not bad!
So i finally got it back on its wheels and now i really need to get some coilovers as the rear end is sitting far to high!!
I cant get it out at the moment as there are a couple of cars parking it in but when i can i will take better pics!!

Well it was a long time in the waiting nut finally i got my seats back from the trimmer and he has made them good again!
They are now half leather with red on the inside and dark grey on the outside and go really well with the rest of the car!!
And the cost for them was a bottle of Drambuie, changed a set of kingpins and shoes on an LDV and took a gearbox out of an LT!!! Not bad
Ordered my coilovers to sort out the suspension, need to get my hands on an insitu adjuster for my panhard rod.
Today i have been doing lots of those little jobs that finish the car. Set the tracking, drilled some holes for sunroof drains, finished fitting the bodykit, even had to weld the rear wash bottle bracket and so on. Much of the same to do tomorrow aswell as an engine service and maybe sort the carb out!!
This is how she stands at the mo!

The seats were as said above, no money exchanged hands just my spare time! The kingpins took about 3 hours to do, the gearbox out the LT was 20 mins and Ł20 for the drambuie! An absolute bargain, its not his best work obviouslty but they are good and im happy! Its not what he usually does he usually does historic bentleys and other rare cars!
You have to keep an Xr2 on pots or rs7's. I want a spare set of wheels but they all fetch silly money! Il keep searching. Im trying to find some odd parts at the moment but can find any xr2's of mk2's in scrap yards near me!!!
Coilovers are on order so need to sort the panhard rod out asap and the rest of the parts to mot it! Going to have a few more parts powdercoated this week which means taking the front suspension apart again!
March or april and she will be on the road!!! Cant wait!
