mk1 escort cosworth project the build begins pg6
some of you may have seen this on here for sale a while back all built ready for cosworth!!!
oh well after a lot more work then maybe lol,its had a shed load of money thrown at it well up to the engine bay anyway, after some head scratching knowing things were not right apart from the obvious brakelines and fuel pressure reg mounted on the hotside
and a visit from mel it seems that the tunnel is wrong, gear lever hole wrong, box mounted to far forward, lol and some repairs needed to front chassis legs, apart from that it should be a straight forward conversion.
had a few of these but none with a rear set up like this one will launch mint on the strip but dont know what it will be like on the roads, should be fun it has a full ladderbar set up
with in board strange coilovers and a 9" mustang axle with a locker diff, full cage etc
heres a few pics for now will set about cutting off the engine cradle tommorra as the captive nuts have sheared
the engine thats going in just stage 3 for now

got a bit more done on the mk1 today fitted some aero catches on the bonnet
while i got my head around chopping some holes in the chassis to get to the captive nuts
then trial fitted the new wcxm to the engine, was expecting to have to trim it back to clear the sump as i want to keep the standard 2wd item and not go the rs2000 route
found ive got about 10mm gap so im hoping it will be alright ?
next pics show the repairs needed on the chassis leg where the wcxm mounts
cut a inch slit both ds and ps to get into the captive nuts
the problem lol
last lot show the problem with the box about 2 inch to far forward also the brake
lines and fuel line on the hot side
and finally all the stuts,t5,& old xmember stripped out and the new wcxm fitted
test fitting the engine tommorrow and will repostion the box etc

Yo mate, the wcxm looks a nice fit on there, AND YOU NEED TO LOSE THAT BRAKE PIPE SET UP!....... while you at it, you mite as well take that fuel pipe out the way as its going to be on the other side plus inside the car! Plus as well mate the wcxm bolts mount will be getting tube mounted to the chassis remmber......

done a bit more today stripped the rest of the bay brakelines/fuel etc modded
the lip on the bulk head.
then dropped the engine in for a test fit
happy with the position, height etc plenty of clearance front and back
so tommorra gonna get the box mounted and re do the gear lever appature
then can strip it all out ready for mel to seam weld and gusset the bay
